Ronaldo effent het pad voor tweede CL-triomf Real

Real Madrid heeft in Cardiff als eerste ploeg ooit zijn titel in de Champions League verlengd. De Spaanse kampioen was in de finale met 4-1 te sterk voor Juventus. Voor de titelhouder kwamen Cristiano Ronaldo (twee), Casemiro en invaller Marco Asensio tot scoren. Mario Mandzukic bracht namens de Italiaanse kampioen de gelijkmaker op zijn naam. Invaller Juan Cuadrado moest na twee snelle gele kaarten bij Juve in de 83e minuut van het veld.
Voor Real Madrid was het de zesde eindzege in de Champions League. De 'Koninklijke' zegevierde ook al zes keer in de Europa Cup voor landskampioenen. Real Madrid is in beide toernooien de recordhouder.
