Gammel bootje om etnisch geweld te ontvluchten

Op de grens tussen Congo en Uganda ligt het Albertmeer. Duizenden Congolezen wagen er de oversteek, in gammele vissersbootjes en dito kano’s. Door het aanhoudende etnische geweld in Ituri slaan mannen, vrouwen en kinderen op de vlucht, want er is niets meer: geen eten, geen water, geen toekomst. Vluchtelingenkampen in Uganda worden overspoeld, de leefomstandigheden zijn ellendig. Maar toch lijkt alles beter dan weerloos de dood ingejaagd te worden. AFP

Door het aanhoudende etnische geweld in het Congolese Ituri slaan mannen, vrouwen en kinderen op de vlucht, want er is niets meer: geen eten, geen water, geen toekomst. Vluchtelingenkampen in Uganda worden overspoeld, de leefomstandigheden zijn ellendig. Maar toch lijkt alles beter dan weerloos de dood ingejaagd te worden. Want volgens berichten eiste het geweld al minstens 79 levens.
