Californië heeft af te rekenen met grootste bosbrand ooit

In het noorden van Californië woedt op dit moment de grootste bosbrand waarmee de westelijke Amerikaanse staat ooit te maken kreeg. Twee brandhaarden zijn er samengekomen, die samen Mendocino Complex genoemd worden en al een gebied van 114.850 hectare vernield hebben. Het vorige record stond op naam van de brand Thomas, die vorig jaar 114.078 hectare verwoestte. Tegelijk woeden in de regio nog andere branden. Carr vernielde al meer dan 1.600 gebouwen en leidde tot de dood van zeven mensen, Ferguson leidde tot de gedeeltelijke sluiting van het Yosemite National Park.AFP
